Nevada First Lady Kathleen Sandoval is heading a "Denim Day" drive on Wednesday in the Silver State to back an awareness campaign against sexual assault and violence.
The event started in 1999 in Los Angeles after an Italian appeals court overturned a man's rape conviction because the woman he was accused of attacking in 1992 wore tight jeans.
It calls for people to wear denim to show solidarity with sex crime victims.

Organizers say that since 2011, at least 20 states in the U.S. have marked the April date picked by the advocacy group Peace Over Violence.
Sandoval notes that last year, Nevada lawmakers extended the statute of limitations for the filing of criminal sexual assault charges from four years to 20 years.
