New UNLV basketball coach Chris Beard may become ex-UNLV basketball coach Chris Beard sooner rather than later.
The Las Vegas Sun reports Texas Tech University in Lubbock is interested in making Beard their head basketball coach.
Their job opened up when TTU's Tubby Smith left for Memphis this week.
Beard was an assistant at Texas Tech for ten years and his family still lives there.
If Texas Tech did want to hire Beard, the school would owe UNLV $1 million to buyout his contract.
UNLV Athletics officials told the Las Vegas Review-Journal a decision would be made Friday.
