Clark County GOP Convention Ends With Chairman Resigning

LAS VEGAS (AP) — The Clark County Republican Party ended a chaotic convention with its chairman stepping down.

Chairman Ed Williams announced his resignation in an email Saturday just as the convention at the Rio was ending.

Williams cited a shift in the party's composition as a factor. He did not mention an ethics complaint filed by a former rival.

The complaint accuses Williams of receiving a rewards program account as part of a contract to hold the convention at the Rio.

The gathering was crowded with supporters of front-runner Donald Trump and Texas Sen. Ted Cruz.

Cruz campaign officials also were there to observe the convention process, including nominations of potential delegates to the state convention.

Clark County is allowed to send 2,000 delegates to next month's state convention.
