Second Case Of Zika Virus Reported In Clark County

Another case of the Zika virus has been reported in Clark County.

The Southern Nevada Health District announced today the virus is present in a woman who traveled to Brazil recently.

The virus is spread through a specific kind of mosquito.

That species has not been found in Clark County, but the health district says it has plans in place to trap the mosquito if it does make its way into the area.

The Zika virus can be spread to others through sexual intercourse, and from women to their unborn children during pregnancy.

The district says most people who have the Zika virus won't know they have it.

Casey Morell is the coordinating producer of Nevada Public Radio's flagship broadcast State of Nevada and one of the station's midday newscast announcers. (He's also been interviewed by Jimmy Fallon, whatever that's worth.)
