Inmate Dies In Apparent Suicide

Officials say a 45-year-old inmate serving a life sentence for murder was found dead in an apparent suicide in a Southern Nevada prison.

The Nevada Department of Corrections say James Scholl was found hanged in his cell at High Desert State Prison on Wednesday morning. Authorities say efforts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Scholl had been in the prison system since May 2006. He was convicted in Clark County of first-degree murder, kidnapping and robbery, and was serving a sentence of life without the possibility of parole.

An autopsy has been scheduled.
