CCSD Estimates $555M Cost To Fix All Repairs In District

Officials say it will cost more than a half-billion dollars to fix the most pressing maintenance problems in the Clark County School District.

The Las Vegas Sun reports that a district list says 142 schools in the Las Vegas area still need major upgrades and replacements. The district, however, is prioritizing building new schools to keep up with constant population growth. Officials are planning to build 17 elementary schools and expand current schools within the next five years.

Meanwhile, the district-wide repair bill adds up to $555 million. Only 19 schools are scheduled for repairs in the next five years.

Las Vegas Academy alone needs $25 million in repairs -- a number that doesn't include minor fixes.

The crumbling schools disproportionately affect the city's minority and low-income students.
