Cortez Masto Files For Senate Run

Democratic former Nevada Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto has formally entered the race for U.S. Senate nearly a year after announcing she'd run.

Cortez Masto filed candidate paperwork Tuesday at the Nevada Secretary of State's Office in Las Vegas. She's aiming to replace longtime Democratic Sen. Harry Reid, who is not seeking a sixth term representing Nevada and is endorsing her to be his successor.

Cortez Masto served two terms as the state's top prosecutor. She's expected to face three-term Republican Rep. Joe Heck in the general election.

The race is one of a handful that's expected to determine whether Republicans retain their majority in the U.S. Senate.
