Sparks To Appeal Lawsuit Over Medical Marijuana Business Info

RENO, Nev. (AP) — The city of Sparks is taking a lawsuit over medical marijuana business information to the Nevada Supreme Court.

The Reno Gazette-Journal reports that a reporter filed a public records request for copies of current business licenses for cultivation centers, dispensaries and production facilities in Sparks. The city provided the information with businesses owners' names redacted.

The Gazette-Journal filed a lawsuit requesting the names and a district judge ordered the information to be released. Sparks has asked the judge to stay his order to give the city time to appeal the case to the state Supreme Court.

The city's lawyers argue that a law granting the business owners confidentiality in state-level documents applies to cities as well.
