Drone Video Service Starts At Ski Resort West Of Lake Tahoe

RENO, Nev. (AP) — Skiers at a resort west of Lake Tahoe can have their experience recorded via drone as part of a unique exemption from the Federal Aviation Administration.

KTVN-TV in Reno, Nevada, reports Cape Productions is the first in the country to be allowed by the FAA to fly within 500 feet of people. The company first set up at Squaw Valley Ski Resort in Olympic Valley, California, and plans to expand to Homewood Ski Resort.

The FAA regulates commercial drones and requires specific safety measures, like a restriction against night flights. Drone operators must be pilots certified by the FAA.
