Elko County Sales Tax Increase Finalized

Elko County has officially finalized a sales tax increase.

The Elko Daily Free Press reports the county commission voted 4 to 1 Wednesday to approve the quarter-percent tax increase.

The county says the increase on sales tax will take effect on July 1, but any extra revenue raised will not be disbursed until that date in 2017.

Elko County expects the sales tax increase to raise roughly $3.5 million in additional revenue.

The majority of that – projected to be some $2 million – will go toward road improvements, both in the county and in incorporated cities.

The remainder will be allocated to the county's fire district.
