EPA Orders Sparks Company To Halt Sales Of Pesticide

RENO, Nev. (AP) — Federal officials are ordering a Sparks company to stop selling a pesticide that is in violation of federal law and potentially harmful to humans.

The Reno Gazette-Journal reports that the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has issued the order to prevent WellPlant and its affiliated company, GST International Inc., from continuing to distribute or offer for sale Mold Manager. The product prevents mold, mildew, algae and moss.

The EPA had requested that the Nevada Department of Agriculture inspect the companies' Sparks facility and test the product.

The EPA found that the Mold Manager product, which is made in Oregon, was unregistered, mislabeled and could cause people harm.

Products that make claims about preventing or clearing mold are considered pesticides and must be registered under federal law.
