Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson says U.S. schools, supermarkets, car repair shops and "any place where radicalization is going on" should be monitored in addition to mosques in light of terrorist threats posed by the Islamic State group.
The retired neurosurgeon called for increased surveillance at a campaign stop about an hour west of Las Vegas on Monday.
Carson also backed up claims by Republican rival Donald Trump, who says he saw video footage of thousands of Muslims in New Jersey cheering the Sept. 11 attacks. The claim has been repeatedly refuted as untrue. But Carson says he also saw news video footage of cheering Muslims.
As for surveillance, Carson wouldn't elaborate on what increased monitoring would entail, but said he's not concerned about violating a person's right to privacy.
