Governor Sandoval Seeks Review Of Refugee Resettlement

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval says he wants the White House to review the process of refugee resettlement in light of terrorist attacks last week in Paris.

The Republican governor said Monday that the U.S. needs to balance its role as an international leader with security.

He didn't go as far as other governors, who threatened to halt efforts to allow Syrian refugees into their states after the attacks. Immigration experts say that governors cannot legally block the resettlement.

President Barack Obama's administration recently pledged to accept about 10,000 Syrian refugees in the United States.

Republican Senate candidate Rep. Joe Heck and his Democratic opponent Catherine Cortez Masto want a review of refugee programs before accepting any more from Syria. Republican Sen. Dean Heller asked Sandoval to suspend resettlement for now.
