Energy Consultant Launches Run For Assembly Seat

Democratic energy consultant Chris Brooks has announced he's running for a Las Vegas Assembly seat.

The 43-year-old Brooks is seeking to represent Assembly District 10, which is held by conservative Republican lawmaker Shelly Shelton. Democrats have a 2 to 1 registration advantage over Republicans in the district, but Shelton overcame that in 2014 after her Democratic opponent's residency was challenged.

Brooks is a native Nevadan who said he's been lobbying the Legislature on renewable energy issues since 2003. He now works as a consultant for Valley Electric Association, a utility company headquartered in Pahrump.

He said Tuesday that his legislative priorities would be modernizing energy policies and diversifying the Nevada economy.

Brooks has three children and two grandchildren. He's engaged to Michelle White, political director for Hillary Clinton's Nevada campaign.
