Lawyer For Bikers Sues Las Vegas Police On Civil Rights Grounds

A lawyer who represents motorcycle clubs has filed a federal civil rights, false arrest and negligence lawsuit against Las Vegas police after he was acquitted in March of a misdemeanor obstruction charge.

Stephen Stubbs alleges that Las Vegas police have a practice of harassing motorcycle club members, and that led to his arrest in November 2013.

He says being found not guilty shows the arrest was improper.

Stubbs says he was prevented from representing a Bikers for Christ member being questioned on a traffic violation outside a motorcycle ministry meeting.

The biker, Kevin Desmairas, is also a plaintiff in the lawsuit. It was filed Wednesday by attorney Cal Potter.

A police spokesman declined comment about the lawsuit.

It seeks at least $75,000 in damages from the department and a police lieutenant.
