Elko County Cleans Up After Winter Weather

Officials in Elko County are cleaning up after a winter storm packing high winds damaged houses, cars, fences and power lines in Elko, Carlin and Spring Creek.

Elko Fire Chief Matt Griego says most of the damage Monday night and Tuesday was caused by tree branches that snapped in the wind or broke off under the weight of several inches of heavy snow. He told the Elko Daily Free Press on Wednesday his crews responded to 18 incidents of trees damaging power lines or causing an electrical arc.

There was no immediate estimate of the cost of the damage.

The town of Carlin 12 miles west of Elko was without power most of Tuesday.

The Wildhorse Reservoir north of Elko recorded 22 inches of snow over the two days.
