RENO, Nev. (AP) — A legal battle over a discrimination lawsuit a former Reno taxi driver and his disabled wife filed against Yellow Cab of Reno nearly three years ago is in limbo after the company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.
U.S. Magistrate William Cobb ruled in March the company violated the Americans with Disabilities Act by denying service to Melodie Doud, with her motorized scooter and a service dog at Reno-Tahoe International Airport in 2013.
A trial had been scheduled to begin this week to address the remaining unresolved claims by her husband, James Doud. He says he was fired in retaliation for complaining about the treatment of his wife.
But Yellow Cab President Roy Street filed the bankruptcy notice in Reno on Oct. 7. That puts the case on hold indefinitely.
