Las Vegas Police: Armed Car Theft Suspect Shot Dead In Standoff

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Police in Las Vegas say an armed woman was shot dead after SWAT officers surrounded a reported stolen vehicle that she refused to get out of outside a strip mall.

Officer Larry Hadfield said the shooting happened a little before 10 a.m. Thursday in a shopping center parking lot near Jones Boulevard and Spring Mountain Road. That's several miles west of downtown.

Hadfield says the incident began about 8:35 a.m. with officers responding to a report of a stolen vehicle.

The identity of the woman and the officers involved in the shooting weren't immediately made public.

Hadfield says the shooting is the 11th involving Las Vegas police in 2015.
