Elko County will seek an injunction against the federal government to stop its sage grouse land management plan from going forward.
The Elko Daily Free Press reports the county made the decision yesterday during a commission meeting.
The injunction is part of ongoing litigation Elko County is pursuing against the federal Bureau of Land Management's plan. It asks courts to enjoin decisions regarding travel restrictions, grazing restrictions, and the reclassification of certain lands.
Last month, the county became party to a lawsuit – along with Eureka County and a natural resources company – looking to block what they call, quote, "draconian land use prohibitions and restrictions in the U.S. Bureau of Land Management’s and U.S. Forest Service’s Nevada Land Management Plans for Greater Sage Grouse," end quote.
A hearing on the injunction will take place next month.
