RENO, Nev. (AP) — The Reno City Council has approved a new $22 million labor contract. That means the first pay raise in six years for the bulk of the city's workforce.
The Reno Gazette-Journal reports the council unanimously approved the deal on Wednesday for members of Operating Engineers Local 39.
The union represents most of Reno's public works employees, public safety dispatchers and administrative staff.

Under the new deal, they'll get a 2 percent raise this year and another 2 percent hike next year.
The increased compensation will cost the city $1.3 million over two years. That includes the city's agreement to cover the entire 2.25 percent increase in the payment to the Public Employee Retirement System.
