Uber Launches In Las Vegas

Ride-hailing company Uber says it's up and running in Nevada even without Clark County's blessing.

Uber officials announced they had launched on Tuesday, shortly after Clark County commissioners rejected ride-hailing companies' requests for a temporary business license and moved forward with plans to craft a local business license ordinance.

The proposed ordinance would require companies pay a fee of $100 per driver per year to operate in unincorporated areas, or more if they want to run in cities.

A public hearing on the matter was scheduled for Oct. 20.

A press release from Uber lists some sample fares … a ride from downtown Las Vegas to Henderson may set you back as much as $52, and from UNLV to Summerlin could cost up to $45.
