Reno Police To Get 2 Percent Pay Hike

RENO, Nev. (AP) — Reno police officers will receive a salary increase under a new $39 million labor contract approved by city officials.

The Reno Gazette-Journal reports the City Council approved the labor contract Wednesday for the city's fire battalion and division chiefs. Police officers will collect a 2 percent pay increase.

The $39 million deal will cost the city about $670,000 more than the previous year's contract. The city plans to pay for the officers' pay hike by salary savings gained through vacancies.

The contract includes retirement health benefits for new hires, which is expected to save the city about $8,000 per employee, and an increase in sick leave payout for battalion chiefs.

The battalion chiefs' contract is expected to cost the city about $3.1 million a year.
