Getting Married In Las Vegas Just Got More Expensive

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Getting hitched in Las Vegas? Be prepared to say "I do" to paying more for a marriage license.

The self-described wedding capital of the world decided Tuesday to increase the cost of a license by $14.

Clark County spokesman Erik Pappa says commissioners voted unanimously to increase the price to $77. The extra $14 earned from each license will be spent promoting Las Vegas as a wedding destination to other in-love couples.

The number of licenses issued in Nevada last year dropped to 80,738, a 37 percent decline from 2004.

Nevada lawmakers approved a bill this year allowing counties with a population of at least 700,000 to add the fee to marriage licenses for wedding promotion.

Pappa says the fee will take effect in about 10 days.
