Police Identify 78-Year-Old Man Accused Of Shooting Wife

NORTH LAS VEGAS, Nev. (AP) — The 78-year-old man accused of killing his 70-year-old wife following an argument at home has been identified.

North Las Vegas Police said the man called police Monday afternoon to tell them what happened, explaining that the two had been arguing before he shot his wife.

Arthur Mattox is being held at the Las Vegas jail under the suspicion of murder.

The shooting happened at about 1:30 p.m. at the couple's home north of the Cannery Casino Hotel and police say the two were the only ones home at the time.

The Clark County Coroner's office has not identified the woman, who was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The AP sought comment on the charges from Mattox, but couldn't verify whether he had a listed telephone number or an attorney.
