Regulators Inch Closer To Vote On Ride-Hailing Company Rules

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) - Nevada transportation regulators are scheduled to make a decision on adopting fast-tracked policies allowing ride-hailing companies like Uber and Lyft to legally operate in the state.

The Nevada Transportation Authority is scheduled to hold a public meeting on Thursday morning to discuss and vote on emergency regulations for ride-hailing companies. Regulators are scheduled to meet Monday to vote on the new rules.

Any emergency regulations would need to be approved by Gov. Brian Sandoval, who has indicated that he'll likely sign off on the fast-tracked regulations.

If approved, ride-hailing companies could begin submitting applications to operate in the state by June 29.

Bills allowing for ride-hailing passed the Legislature after much debate. One imposes a 3 percent fare tax projected to raise more than $70 million over two years.
