FAA Head Promises Nevada Meeting On Drone Rules

LAS VEGAS (AP) — The head of the Federal Aviation Administration says a meeting about proposed drone aircraft rules and regulations will be held in Nevada by the end of the year.

An aide to Democratic Congresswoman Dina Titus says FAA chief Michael Huerta made the promise during a speech to an aviation symposium that Titus is hosting in Las Vegas.

Officials refer to drones as unmanned aerial systems, and Nevada is one of six states chosen for testing while the FAA develops operating regulations.

The first FAA-authorized commercial drone operation over land began in Alaska about a year ago.

New York, North Dakota, Texas and Virginia also have drone testing.

Nevada has test facilities in Boulder City, east of Las Vegas, and at airports in Mercury, Fallon and Stead, near Reno.
