"Campus Carry" Bill Gets Through NV Assembly Committee This Time

The Nevada Assembly Judiciary Committee today approved a bill to allow people with concealed weapon permits to carry guns at public universities and community colleges.

It now goes to the full Assembly after being supported by Republicans and opposed by Democrats on the committee.

The proposal has drawn staunch opposition from student groups and the Nevada System of Higher Education.

Students opposed to the measure filled the committee room to offer testimony, but the Republican chairman of the committee, Ira Hansen, said enough testimony had been heard on earlier, similar bills.

Jay Bartos joined Nevada Public Radio in 1993 to develop and manage the state’s first radio reading service for people unable to use standard printed material due to blindness or another disability. After the reading service was discontinued in 2011, he became the afternoon host on KNPR for ten years. Jay can now be heard on air on News 88.9 KNPR and Classical 89.7 KCNV throughout the week.
