CARSON CITY (AP) — Nevada lawmakers have passed a Republican-backed bill that would restrict people convicted of domestic violence from having a gun and broaden the definition of justifiable homicide.
Assembly members voted 25-17 on Friday to approve SB175. The measure already passed the Senate and now goes to Gov. Brian Sandoval for approval.
The bill would prohibit a person from owning a gun if they've been convicted of domestic violence, or from purchasing one if there's a restraining order filed against them.
It would expand the definition of justifiable homicide to include killings that occur while a person is defending an occupied home or vehicle. It also repeals a law that gun owners in Clark County register their firearms with police.
