CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — Nevada lawmakers have approved a measure extending more rights to motorists suspected of driving under the influence.
Senators voted to approve AB 67 on a unanimous vote on Tuesday. The measure passed out of the Assembly in April and now goes to the governor for approval.
The bill clarifies law related to blood tests and requires police to obtain a warrant to test for impairment if a driver refuses to voluntarily give a sample. An officer can then seize the person's license and potentially arrest them.
The measure also clarifies that an intoxicated person who fell asleep in a parked car that isn't running isn't liable for a DUI offense.
Supporters said the bill amends current law to comply with state Supreme Court decisions.
