LAS VEGAS (AP) — Clark County officials are investigating after elevated levels of bacteria closed down two indoor pools.
KSNV-TV reports that the Desert Breeze Aquatic facility and the West Flamingo adult facility in Las Vegas closed after two separate strains of staph bacteria were found in the water. Employee with skin rashes prompted the checks on water quality.
Clark County spokeswoman Stacey Welling says the county does not normally do such testing. Two other county indoor pools are being checked for bacteria levels.
There are no local or state protocols for dealing with possible staph bacteria so the county is looking to the World Health Organization for guidance. That means extensive cleaning and re-testing before the facilities are re-opened to the public.
