The Riviera will close for good May 4 at noon, it was announced today, putting an estimated 1,000 employees out of work.
The venerable Strip casino-hotel was sold to the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority last month for $191 million. They plan to tear it down and put in convention space.
The Riviera will celebrate its 60th anniversary on April 20.
