S. Nev. Emergency Rooms Burdened By Folks Worried About Flu

People suffering from flu-like symptoms have been packing Southern Nevada hospitals, forcing emergency rooms to turn away ambulances, says the Southern Nevada Health District.

Several hospitals declared states of “internal disaster” in their emergency departments Monday and Tuesday. Ambulances were forced to wait outside of hospitals for 45 or more minutes Monday night before patients were admitted.

The health district is suggesting that people use quick care or their own doctors instead of emergency rooms for flu-like symptoms. They also asked hospitals to closely monitor staff and equipment supplies to accurately assess whether closing to new patients is necessary.
