BLM To Gather Burros Near Pahrump After Crashes

PAHRUMP, Nev. - Federal officials are rounding up burros in southern Nevada's Pahrump Valley after at least five of them were killed or gravely injured by cars in the past few years.

The Bureau of Land Management says it plans to keep bait corrals in place for several days to several months to gather 30-40 burros, which will later be up for adoption.

BLM officials say the wild animals pose a safety hazard along State Route 160 and on side roads in the Pahrump area, and six people have contacted them within the past month to raise concerns.

Authorities say that since October 2010, at least five burros in the Johnnie Herd Management Area were hit by cars.

No humans have been reported dead or injured in the accidents.
