Federal and state officials say applications are due next week for aid for people in a southern Nevada area affected by severe storms and flooding in early September.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency says the deadline is Thursday to seek reimbursement for funds spent helping the Moapa Band of Paiutes tribal nation during the storm Sept. 7-9.
State, tribal, and local entities and certain nonprofit organizations are eligible for federal cost-sharing funds for emergency work and repairs on the Moapa reservation.
Thunderstorms spawned by the remnants of Hurricane Norbert dumped as much as 4 inches of rain in two hours in the rural Moapa area northeast of Las Vegas.
That created flooding on the reservation and washed out a stretch of Interstate 15 between Las Vegas and Salt Lake City.
