Las Vegas will be one of three cities pitching to be the home of a Major League Soccer expansion team, during a meeting in New York City Thursday.
According to MLS, Las Vegas, Minneapolis and Sacramento will make presentations to the league at its headquarters.
Following the presentations, the league’s Board of Governors will hold a meeting in December about the proposed expansion team.
Supporters of bringing a team to Las Vegas want a stadium for the team built near Symphony Park downtown. However, at this point, the plan is on hold because of concerns about the use of public money to build the stadium.
MLS has already announced plans for teams to launch in New York City and Orlando in 2015. Teams are also planned for Los Angeles and Atlanta.
The league has a goal to have 24 teams by the end of the decade.
