Heavy rains pummeling Southern Nevada forced the evacuation of an Indian reservation, sent cars floating off Interstate 15 and threatened to overwhelm a dam near the small town of Moapa.
Four inches of rain fell in Moapa in a two-hour period Monday. The waters of the Muddy River, which feeds the Virgin River, were close to breaching a dam that protects nearby homes. No serious injuries were reported by Monday afternoon, although some vehicles on I-15 near Moapa were washed off the road.
Also in the Moapa area, segments of State Route 168 and I-15 were closed.
