First-time claims for jobless benefits in Nevada were 14,503 in June, an increase of nearly 2,000 from May, the state Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation reported Thursday. That was about 3 percent lower than in June of last year.
A department economist said the increase from May to June may have been the result of some claims in May not being counted until June. The record for first-time claims is 36,414 in December 2008.
