The recent thunderstorms to hit southern Nevada have left some boaters and swimmers at Lake Mead in need of rescuing. National Park Service crews received 72 distress calls yesterday and had to go out on 11 rescues. Four people remain unaccounted for and Las Vegas Metro Search and Rescue plan a flyover today.
Officials said another woman had to tread water for more than three hours without a life jacket. Crews were also called to a sinking boat. There were no serious injuries reported. Yesterday the weather service recorded 57 mph wind gusts at Hoover Dam. Another storm system is expected to move through the area again today that could bring strong winds and showers.
