Hospital staff at Veteran's facility in Albuquerque, New Mexico is being scrutinized over the death of a veteran who waited twenty minutes for ambulance. Last week the unidentified man collapsed at the Raymond G Murphy VA Medical Center's cafeteria. Reports showed the staff tried CPR while waiting for the ambulance.
Some VA officials have questioned why the man was taken to the emergency room by foot considering it was just 500 yards away. Officials with the American College of Medical Quality say that calling an ambulance is standard practice in any case. There's an investigation into why the ambulance took 20 minutes to arrive and whether or not the cafeteria facility had a defibrillator on hand.
