A group of lawmakers and educators have recommended more money to go to low-income kids and those who struggle with English. Monday, a task force on K-12 Public Education agreed on more funding for students who fit into either of those categories. The task force recommended at least 150 percent of the normal per-pupil funding.
According to the Nevada Department of Education, current per pupil funding is a little more than $8,500. The recommendation will become a bill to be introduced to the legislature in 2015. Republican state Sen. Michael Roberson says the proposal is predicated on the Legislature increasing its overall budget for education, rather than taking money away from other areas of the budget.
