Nevada's community colleges will remain under the control of the state's system of higher education. An interim legislative committee voted Tuesday to create a vice chancellor position to oversee and advocate for community colleges. There will also be a new committee of regents and community leaders created to help align school programs with the workforce needs.
There was a push by leaders including Assemblywoman Marilyn Kirkpatrick to give communities control over individual schools. Along with this decision lawmakers will draft bills to create scholarships for low-income students and to train unemployed workers.
