Entsminger Talks Water Policy, Conservation

John Entsminger has spent the last 15 years in various jobs with the Southern Nevada Water Authority and the Las Vegas Valley Water District. But now, Entsminger is general manager of the agency created in 1991 to address the water needs of Southern Nevada. He recently replaced Pat Mulroy who retired. Entsminger sees his selection for the top job as an endorsement of the good work the district and the authority have done over the past two decades, especially on the Colorado River. The most controversial project on the table is the authority’s plan to siphon groundwater from four rural valleys in eastern Nevada and send it to Las Vegas through a pipeline network expected to cost as much as $15 billion. The agency is also building an intake straw below Lake Mead's two existing pipes to bring more water to a thirsty resort city. The project is due for completion in late 2015.
