Slaughterhouse-Five. Huckleberry Finn. Bridge to Terabithia. Harry Potter. What do they have in common? They're all books that have been banned or censored. How are books still banned today? Why are they banned? And how has censorship of literature changed over the years? Authors and other city luminaries read from banned books, and discuss the power of the censored word.
For the American Library Association's Banned Books Week, speakers will read from censored works on Sept. 27 at 7 p.m. at the Clark County Library Theater. The event is sponsored by the ACLU of Nevada, the Vegas Valley Book Festival, UNLV's Black Mountain Institute, and the Las Vegas-Clark County Library District.
