Here in Southern Nevada, you could say the desert is a barren wasteland where nothing grows. Wrong! Some folks say you can grow orchards in the desert and they're here to prove it! Three master gardeners tell us the secrets to backyard gardens: growing in 120-degree weather, planting tomatoes in an apartment, and how they're getting children and low-income seniors to grow their own food. What are you growing in your backyard? How do you get fresh produce? If you're an amateur and want tips to turn your thumb green, call 258-3552 or e-mail son@knpr.org.

You won’t find a paywall here. Come as often as you like — we’re not counting. You’ve found a like-minded tribe that cherishes what a free press stands for. If you can spend another couple of minutes making a pledge of as little as $5, you’ll feel like a superhero defending democracy for less than the cost of a month of Netflix.
