On Thursday, county officials hosted the grand opening for Southern Nevada’s first foster care health and wellness clinic. The new pediatric clinic is located on the Child Haven Campus in East Las Vegas.

It results from a partnership between nonprofit FirstMed Health and Wellness and Clark County Family Services.

The medical center includes primary care services, a phlebotomy lab, dental services, and psychological and behavioral counseling for children both in and out of the foster care system.

Robynn Bell is Child Haven’s deputy director. She said the goal of the new clinic is to ensure a continuum of care.

We're really hoping by offering these types of services in that one-stop-shop area, those kids and those families are able to get what they need in a way that is hopefully a little easier," Bell said.

The clinic has already begun seeing patients. Staff estimate they’ll be able to serve nearly 60 children per day, in four medical exam rooms, three dental rooms, and three therapy rooms.

There are currently more than 3,400 children in Clark County’s foster care system on any given day.
