The Nevada Department of Health and Human Services has awarded the state’s yearly Medicaid Managed Care contract to CareSource, the only nonprofit recipient. The organization promises to improve healthcare outcomes in Nevada’s rural areas.
CareSource says the funding will be used to provide Medicaid patients with greater access to preventative care. It will also go toward programs addressing social determinants of health, such as housing and nutrition.
Though these services have always been available to Clark and Washoe county residents, 2026 will be the first year when rural counties will get healthcare services funded by the Medicaid Managed Care program.
The state estimates this expansion will result in a 10% increase in the number of patients served by the program. That’s equivalent to around 75,000 rural Nevadans.
CareSource’s contract goes into effect on Jan. 1, 2026.
