Las Vegas Police Lieutenant Dies From COVID-19 Complications

LAS VEGAS (AP) — A veteran Las Vegas police officer who for 16 years headed a program supporting families of officers hurt or killed in the line of duty has become the first officer to die from complications of COVID-19.

The department says Lt. Erik Lloyd died Wednesday at a Las Vegas hospital. The department says his death is considered to be in the line of duty.

Sheriff Joe Lombardo called it a profound loss. Lloyd was 53 and had been a police officer for almost 30 years. His wife was also hospitalized with COVID-19 but recently returned home.
