LAS VEGAS (AP) — A top U.S. attorney's office prosecutor in Las Vegas is being tapped to become a Nevada state judge.
Gov. Steve Sisolak on Friday appointed Cristina Silva to the seat left open when Clark County District Court Judge Jennifer Togliatti retired.
Silva is 39 and has been a federal prosecutor in Nevada since 2011.
She'll face election in 2020 to retain her judicial position.
Silva worked previously in the domestic violence unit of the Miami Dade state attorney's office in Florida.
She earned her law degree from American University Washington College of Law in Washington, D.C., and was admitted to the Nevada bar in 2015.
Togliatti has been named as a mediator in court cases stemming from the October 2017 shooting that killed 58 people on the Las Vegas Strip.
