Gov. Sisolak Unhappy About Pres. Trump's Budget Proposal For Yucca Mtn.

Governor Steve Sisolak has called President Donald Trump’s budget proposal to restart Yucca Mountain “another attempt to shove unwanted toxic material down our throats.”

Governor Sisolak expressed his disapproval of Yucca Mountain in a statement Monday responding to the most recent budget proposal out of the White House. It includes $116 million for the Department of Energy to restart the licensing process to send the nation’s nuclear waste to Yucca Mountain.

Relations between the state of Nevada and the Department of Energy have been tense recently. The federal government released documents showing it had secretly shipped a half metric ton of weapons-grade plutonium to the former Nevada Test Site despite opposition from the state.

The litigation to stop the government from sending any more is still pending.
