Death Valley National Park’s visitation has doubled in the past nine years and increased by 30 percent over the past year.
In 2018, a record 1.6 million people visited the park.
A statement from the park said visitation numbers are relatively consistent year-round, despite the high summer temperatures. Summer visits tend to be quicker, however.

Park Superintendent Mike Reynolds said some people come to Death Valley in the summer precisely because it is the hottest place on earth.
The month of August saw the most visitors, with just over 182,000. Death Valley’s visitation has been increasing for more than a decade.
